What is PageRank?
Google Says -PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.

PageRank is simple way to find out how much a site or domain is impotent to World Wide Web/Internet that depends on quality backlinks backlinks.

You can check pagerank of any site by searching online tools at Google. You can use Google Toolbar if you need to check PR of every site or you can use plugins for browsers. Or you can check direct form here -

PageRank Update
Google updates PageRank 4 times in a year (every 3 months). They have updated PR 2 times this year. 1st update was on mid-start of January and 2nd was at the end of month April. Update date and Google backlinks check dates are different. So if you get PR on any update so its not on your current backlinks status. Normally they craws all sites for PR updates around 1 month ago. So your backlinks in June will decide you next month’s PR.

Fake PageRank
Fake PR is easy to get but its useless. You can get fake PR by redirecting your domain to a high PR domain like Google, Adobe, w3c etc. Many people have got Fake PR 10 without any backlinks. If you want real PR then stop redirecting and start link building.

Google and Paid Links
Google don’t like paid links because it damage their PR system. PR was created to see which site is more important and which not. But these day webmaster are buying link from other high PR sites to improve thier PR. Google says that we should use nofollow attributes on outgoing links. If Google came to know that you have used paid link (buy or sell) then your site will get lower PR and chances that it will ban your site. I had a PR3 site, I sold lot of links and paid post and finally Google banned that site and deindexed form search engine. Don’t get sitewide links form any site because Google may think that its paid links. Try to get single page link with anchor text related to your domain. Directories are good for this type of links and articles directory will give you both SE ranking and Traffic.

How to Build Good PageRank
Everyone ask that how can he make good PageRank for his sites. The best way is get backlinks. Buying PR on blogs or sites is mostly waste of money when you can do it for free. There are lot of forums these days on every category. Join forum and promote your sites there, add if you signatures, profiles etc. Forum signature is one the best way to get backlinks and traffic together. Google will never count it as a paid link. Some forum use nofollow attributes in signature links, always check forum before start posting that forum is dofollow or nofollow.
You can also do blog comments. Most of blogs use nofollow in comments but there are some who use dofollow in comment. A simple Google search will fine you a list of dofollow blogs. You can add comment and get backlinks. Many blogs have widgets for top commenter’s in sidebars where they show name and link of highest commented person on that month.
Directories can also help in backlink building. Submit on both niche and general directories. There are 3 types of directories (Free, paid and reciprocal ). Free directories with dofollow are best. Many free directories use nofollow tags at links, submitting to these directories make no sense.
Link exchange with other webmasters is most popular way for traffic exchange. If can also help in making good PR. Its easy to find similar sites if you are member of any webmaster forum.
